Amavasya (Tamil: அமாவாசை, Malayalam: അമാവാസി,Telugu: అమావాస్య, Gujarati: અમાવાસ્યા,Hindi: अमावस्या ),
also known as No Moon Day or New Moon Day, marks an important tithi in the Hindu Calendar. 

It is the last day of the dark lunar phase and the beginning of the bright lunar phase. During Amavasi, 
the moon is not visible in the sky, as it aligns with the sun.
