Hindu Groups Challenge Temple Land Bill, Advocate for 'Sanatan Board'

Mumbai: Prominent Hindutva organizations in Maharashtra have expressed strong reservations against a new law being considered for the management of temple lands. These groups feel that the proposed legislation does not sufficiently safeguard the interests and autonomy of religious institutions.
The core of their objection lies in the perceived lack of clarity and potential for bureaucratic overreach in the proposed law. They argue that such measures could undermine the traditional governance structures of temples. In response, these outfits have collectively put forth a demand for the creation of a 'Sanatan Board'.
This proposed 'Sanatan Board', according to the organizations, would be an independent body dedicated to the preservation, management, and administration of all Hindu temple lands across the state. They believe this dedicated board would ensure better protection and proper utilization of temple assets, aligning with spiritual and cultural values, rather than a potentially restrictive government-led framework.
