Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court has dismissed a recusal request filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the ongoing excise policy case. The Chief Minister had sought the judge's recusal, citing her remarks about her children's financial dealings, which he believed indicated a potential bias.
However, Justice Sharma firmly rejected the plea, asserting that it is not within the purview of a politician to question or judge the competence of the judiciary. She highlighted that such attempts undermine the independence of the judicial system and set a dangerous precedent. The judge emphasized that the judiciary must remain impartial and free from external influence.
Furthermore, Justice Sharma stated that the personal lives of judges and their families should not be a subject of scrutiny or dictate the proceedings of a case. She clarified that the focus must remain on the merits of the case and the legal framework, rather than the personal circumstances of those involved in the judicial process.
